Cognitive education and counseling psychology in the Arab world

El Rali Aharchaou

Abstract

This work aims to provide evidence to back up the belief that cognitive competences are likely to be improved and analyzed, assuming, hence, that modern psychology’s task is to find feasible solutions for issues such as acquisition, learning, adaptation and integration in everyday life. It is now proven that human cognitive capacity is flexible and predisposed to improve by counseling and intervention. This reality is confirmed by the the available Programs and methods used to enhance cognitive flexibility. It is not sufficient to have high cognitive abilities in order to success in achieving different tasks easily and efficiently, but it is necessary also to use these capacities in different situations. This fact highlights the importance of cognitive diagnostic and programs of cognitive education especially in the evaluation of cognitive competences and its development. It contributes also to making aware of the efficiency of strategy learning in improving learning and enhancing performance. This can be done by asserting that the cause of any failure does not depend on competence deficiency but it could be related to a deficit in cognitive functioning and personal weak effort or acquired feeling of deficiency. Khadija Kebdani

Abstract

The early streams of family therapy showed that family is an entity subject to changes, hence the manifested symptoms of one of its members is the expression of its interaction and functioning and its psychological and social organization. Thus, the family is the identity matrix that permits to its members achieving their individuality while conserving the feeling of belonging. In this sens, the family is considered as a system in which each alteration affecting it could have direct impact on its members. Generally the individual carry the symptoms of the family when he shows maladaptive behaviors. The social calamities spreaded in our society reflect these alterations, so it’s important to take care of the family as a whole structure. Explanatory Styles and Prediction of Sport Performance in children aged between 8 to 12 years

Marei Salama-Younes

Abstract

In this work we intend to validate and adapt a tool to evaluate the explanatory modes in children (CASQ); we aimed also to test the effect of contextualized explanatory mode on the prediction of sport performance of children and pre-teens. Finally, we tested the effect of explanatory modes (optimist versus low neutral versus high neutral versus pessimist) on those performances. For the transcultural validation, we first adopted the method proposed by Vallerand and Hess (2000). Then, a version was contextualized in sport domain. We tested in this study four principal hypothesis. The results show that the explanatory mode have an effect on the sport performance, but this effect was mediatized by the expectancy of success. We found also that only the contextualized explanatory mode and the expectancy of success are the variables that mediatized the effect of the perceived competence on the sport performance, the results uncover that children with optimist explanatory mode (O) reach better sport performance than those who have a neutral or pessimist mode. Meta-stereotypes of Tunisian Muslim, strange schemata and individual strategies of identity restoration

Kaouther Souissi

Abstract

This study summed up a part of my doctoral thesis that I carried out its field study before tunisian revolution during the repression of muslim brothers by Ben Ali government. The goal of this work was to uncover the effect of this policy on the social face of the muslim identity. In others words, following the policy of sanction and control over religious, what judgments the Muslims of the East emitted against the Tunisian Muslims, and to what extent young Tunisians were influenced by these judgments in their Muslim self-image and how they responded to these judgments. We analysed free verbal associations and their valence in 219 practicing and non-practicing Tunisian students of both sex. They talk first about their conception of the Muslim, and then about how the Muslim of the East views the Tunisian Muslim. In this perspective, two inter and intra-subject comparative studies were carried out, the first aimed at identifying the in-group representations and the level of affirmation of the young adults of their Muslim identity according to the prototypical or even ideal traits of the Muslim, the second concerned the intergroup representations and the impact of Tunisian Muslim meta-stereotypes (internalized judgments) on ingroup identity. The results were discussed with reference to the theory of social representations and theories of identity and social categorization. On the whole, they showed a big gap between the traits of the Muslim in general and the features of the Tunisian Muslim. The analysis in terms of strange patterns has highlighted the presence of individual strategies of identity restoration adopted by some subjects to rationalize their contradiction and reduce the state of anxiety that produced their negative judgments. Keywords: Meta-stereotypes; Tunisian Muslim; Social representations; Negative judgments

Epileptic Child problematic in the light of Rorschach

Abla Zioui

Abstract

The present work analysed the importance of using the Rorschach test in the field of Neurology, and more particularly in the psychological study of epilepsy, insofar as it allows to understand the relationship between physiological and psychological mechanisms. Indeed, epilepsy is a disease that particularly affects thought, since the crises occur abruptly and suddenly, which causes the interruption of psychological and physical continuity. We will expose the results of the clinical study, which was conducted on a group of five children with epilepsy using the Rorschach test. We assume that epilepsy could be related to narcissistic fragility in terms of constantly threatened body image, as well as the feeling of loss (loss of consciousness, loss of control, loss of relationship, …), in addition to the dispersion of thought which is manifested in inhibition, blockage or arbitrary repetition as defenses against the threats that affect the image and the continuity of oneself. Keywords: Epilepsy; Rorschach test; Narcissistic fragility; Body image
